EVS at Alliance Française

EVS at Alliance Française

The French Alliance of Brno is looking for EVS volunteer.

From february 2014

festival Bonjour Brno 2013

[brun]Who are we?[/brun]

The French Alliance of Brno is a non-profit organisation with two main activities:

. As language school : It provides courses of French language, from beginners to advanced students; organises exams at a national level and delivers an official degree (Delf-Dalf)

. As a cultural centre: It organises different cultural activities during the year (ciné-café, conferences, tasting evenings), and one month festival presenting French culture through different disciplines (festival Bonjour Brno).

. It is also a pole for welcoming French people who just moved to Brno and who need advice. We are in contact with the Brno expat center and other organisations taking care of foreigners.

The building is composed of a library, six classrooms and a common room to welcome whoever wants to get information about France, to work on computers or to read magazines. It cooperates with the French embassy and French Institute of Prague and is a cultural platform at the regional level, helping the French companies and people starting their life in South Moravia.

Two people are working in the administration office, ten teachers are providing regular courses for three hundred students, and a lot of local volunteers are helping during events. The cultural activities gather hundreds of participants each year.

The organisation is opened from Monday to Friday from 9 a.m to 9 p.m. Courses usually start in the afternoon, at 16h. During the day, the office is opened and we will have some rooms available for students who would need a place for meetings or other works. We also plan to provide french courses for children in the morning.

Where is it?[bleu violet][/bleu violet]

[rouge]Brno[/rouge] is the second biggest city of the Czech Republic (400 000 inhabitants), and one of the most active city in terms of student dynamism (almost 100 000 students) as well as economical investment at European level (international compagnies such as IBM, Lufthansa, Picsmania, etc).

The city is located at the heart of Europe: 2h30 from Prague, 1h30 from Vienna and Bratislava. The border countries are Poland, Germany, Austria and Slovakia and it is really easy and quite cheap to travel.
Indeed, more and more foreigners are settling in Brno to try to build their life. The cultural offer is rich and varied ; Brno is the city of theatre and contemporary art, hosting one of the biggest gallery of contemporary art in the Czech Republic (Wannieck Gallery). It is also fully equiped with sportive indoor and outdoor facilities (ice-skating hall, climbing walls, and many other).

The [rouge]French Alliance of Brno[/rouge] is located in the heart of the city (in Moravské namesti) surrounded by art galleries, cinema, and not far from the big park Luzanky (where the EVS coordination office is located).

As for the building itself, it is an old house in new gothic style, shared with the Austrian institute (in the 1st floor) and a restaurant (in the ground floor). The French Alliance is at the second floor and includes six classrooms, a medialibrary, a common room for meetings, conferences, a kitchen and office for the administration staff.

We would like [rouge]Luzanky[/rouge] to be the coordinating organisation, because we trust in their competences, and we think that the volunteer will adapt easier if he shares some time with the other EVS volunteers working in Brno. Indeed, they would take Czech courses all together share the common meetings and trainings which would enable “our” volunteer to get to know how the others are working, and though to share ideas and projects. Moreover, the Luzanky leisure time centre offers many different activities (from sport to art) and is a place for meeting and sharing (Luzanky hosts a Volunteer’s centre with regular meetings from different youth organisations, etc.) so we believe that our collaboration with Luzanky is a good opportunity for the volunteer to widen their network.

Information about coordination in Luzanky : http://evs.luzanky.cz/aktualne/aktualne/aktualne.php
Concerning technical needs, we will help the volunteer to find a decent accomodation ; he will have the opprtunity to share a flat either with other european volunteers, or with young locals.
Thanks to the coordination with Luzanky, the volunteer will share the czech language courses, and recieve regularly pocket money, money for the food and a public transport card.

There is a kitchen at the French Alliance, where the volunteer can prepare his own meals, and there are, not far from the building, a lot of restaurants (also some vegan and vegetarian ones) where you can order a lunch for 3€ or 4€.

[vert fonce]What will you do?[/vert fonce]

The volunteer will closely work with the staff of the French Alliance (director, coordinator, teachers). We want him to feel part of the French Alliance and to have the possibility to be in contact with all the employees if he feels like sharing and communicating with them.

His role will be to help us to create a creative and friendly atmosphere, to help the visitors to feel like at home, to facilitate relationships between students and the organisation and to communicate around actions held by the French Alliance.

The volunteer will follow us during the events, will partly represent the organisation during some fairs and market, he will aslo have a desk at the reception of the common room, with a computer where he will be able to work and welcome people.

The volunteer will spend 25 hours weekly working for the French Alliance, and 10 hours per week will be organised for the meeting with other EVS, language courses and preparation of his mini-project.

During the working time at the French Alliance, we want the volunteer to help us in regular activites like welcoming students in the common room and giving information about our courses and cultural program, writing articles in our monthly newspaper, classifying the books in the library, updating the website, helping during the cultural events (taking photos, installing pictures for exhibitions, etc.) He will also have some time to think of activities he could organise or prepare. We want to leave some space for his creativity.

Regular meetings are organised with the teachers of the French Alliance, and also with the commitee of the Association. These meetings are made to share about the plans and activities of the Alliance, and to solve the potencial problems. The cultural actions all over the year are opportunities to strenghten ties with the membres of the association and the students. We would like the volunteer to participate in all these meetings and gatherings so as he could understand how such an organisation is working from inside and outside. We believe the volunteer can learn a lot from these meetings.

From Mondays to Fridays.

Mornings : the mornings will be used for the volunteer to work with the pedagogical coordinator and the cultural manager, it will be the time for him to discover what the work consists in, and to help one or the other depending on the time of the year (helping the cultural manager during the festival preparation in spring, helping the pedagogical coordinator at the begining of each semestre during the registrations of the students or the exam period.)

Afternoons : classes start from 16h, and until 20h. It is time where most of the people are in the building, visiting the library or learning french. At that time, the volunteer will have the possibility to give informations to our students, he will have also time for writing for our newspaper, and classifying documents of the library.

Usually, the volunteer will have all the week-ends free. But sometimes, we organise events in the evening or during the week-ends when we would like him to be with us. So afterwards, it will be possible for the volunteer to take days off, or to come to work later. Moreover, he will have two days off per month which will be possible to regroup in order to have longer holidays.
